Up and Down Hero

For this assignment I shot the performing artist Millie Brown in Yosemite, I tried to capture her around nature from different angles. Since she is always perform around nature I thought this was a good idea. She was named for the second time Visual Artist of the Year in London. Her art is very interesting to me because she use her body as a tool for her Art. She had a gallery at the ACE gallery in Los Angeles where she was showing her canvas.

Change Hero CONVERSE

 For this assignment I shot a pair of converse and flowers in the studio and tried to change different positions. Also i used different gels just to get a better results , I used three strobes and different backgrounds as well. My idea was to show as a photographer different advertising options to a client.  Also my idea was to have a collaboration with converse and make the shoes look more approachable, the reasons why i used different gels and flowers was to get more attention from viewers. I put all the images together because I thought this would be a good way to show the same subject in different ways as you can noticed the same subject changes in every photo.

Up and Down Proposal

Up and Down i'll try to take photos of a model or artist from different angles, maybe from the bottom or top, i'll shoot outdoors and try to capture the reactions of the person just being on nature.
For this assignment i had plans to shoot it in the studio and make this shoot more kind of fashion but my model cancel on me last minute and at the end it didn't work out with schedules so i took photos of my friend in nature.

Change Proposal

For this assignment i'll work with a product and gels in the studio, I want to play around with different colors and aesthetic. I'm planning on taking a photo of a subject and demonstrate the same object in different compositions it could be me adding more props to the photo or just changing the colors in the background. This would be a good way for me to show the different changes that this subject has.

American Culture HERO

Skater 

For this assignment I tried to capture the model showing his personal style and the props like the hat and the skate on the side. I took the photo out doors with a strobe on the left side. I wanted to do something more like an editorial type like he being a skater saying a story about his culture or his personal style.

               

For this assignment  I took photos of my friend Katie Howard, She is a young artist from San Diego and the singer of the band called Citrus. For my hero image I tried to capture the American culture so I told my friend to wear the american flag outfit. I wanted to show a pool and trees because i think it works well with the subject it makes me think of like a scene from a movie. Also her expression on the photo works well. I told my friend to carry the horns because i think it would look more interesting.

Culture Proposal

For this assignment my goal is to capture American Culture and feminism i'll take photos of my friend in front of her pool holding some horns. She will be wearing an american flag outfit. I didn't really had that much ideas for this assignment but i think i captured American culture in some way. 

Time

I took Pictures of my roommate Daniel and for this assignment I wanted to capture him just being himself at home. I took a before and after photo of him with green hair, he changed his hair color that day. I took this photo while we were getting ready to move out of the apartment. He is a young photographer and musician, and I decided to get like a youth, freedom vibe on the first photo. I cut small gels squares and put them around the flash so as you can see on the corners there's some color gel effects.

This is the after photo of my roommate with green hair, he said he was inspired on the Joker a batman character. This photo I took it with an iPhone 6 quality and used some purple lighting. Personally i sometimes like how iPhone photos come out specially. if you want to get a grungy effect.

Direction

 For this assignment I shot my friend Quinn in SoHo Manhattan, we met at Starbucks in Brooklyn and took the train to the city. He is a photographer as well so we both took photos of buildings, people and weird stuff. When i took this photo i was trying to incorporate direction, i told Quinn not to move because i needed to create this direction effect. i took this photo thinking about lines and squares as you can noticed on the ground you can see lines that take you to the other side of the street also i like this shot because the background is a building and it's very symmetrical.

I first met Quinn at work and he is a pretty cool guy. He is always carrying his camera out ready for the perfect time to take a photo. Now he is working as a model and I'm very happy for him. We walked in SoHo for a while and then we went to Chinatown.

 

Direction

 For this assignment  i was thinking about shooting a landscape maybe someone walking towards a cave or an interesting place. I would like to shoot at night or during sunset outdoors. I'm going to be using some lights not sure which ones yet but i always wanted to shoot someone on nature and try to capture their reactions about discovering a new place. I think this idea goes well with the assignment since when you discover a new place you don't know where direction to take. I'll use some Ryan McGinley work as a reference but i'll try to recreate my own idea.

TIME proposal

Time lapse

For this assignment I was thinking about using a person sitting on a table eating. I would like to capture the model eating something like a pizza or burger. This assignment makes me think about Andy Warhol on the 80's commercial  for burger king, they shoot a video of him eating for like five min. There's a video on Youtube where they show the whole process of eating the burger and this makes me think about time. Probably i would shoot the before and after of eating for example a pizza 

and try to capture the reactions or emotions of the person while eating.

MUSIC

The Aquadolls X Meow Magazine 

This photo shoot was inspired on music and fashion for Meow Magazine.  The editor interviewed the band and I took the pictures for the article. This band is based in LA and they are signed with burger records. This record label is located in Fullerton, CA and some of my favorite bands at the moment are signed with them. Melissa Brooks is the lead singer and she appeared on some campaigns for American Apparel and they have opened for the french psych punk band La Femme and The Garden.

I first met with the band at the Pink Motel in Sun Valley, CA and we had some issues with the location so i had to change it at the last minute so we improvised and shot the pictures at this school near there.

The shoot was styled by Cheroke eneas who is the designer of the Devil Slang.  She wore all the accessories and clothes from her online store. 

The main idea was to shoot Melissa on her daily basis and try to capture her glam and natural look but looking sexy at the same time. 

I also took some pictures during sunset  i think they were my favorite since the lighting was very nice and their skin tones look amazing.

 It was very fun working with them, definitely it's a bit more challenging taking pictures of the whole band. The two guys were moving around a lot so it was a bit harder to capture a good photo of the whole band. 

 The bay area quartet SWMRS have announced a co-headlining west coast tour with so-Cal's Melissa Brooks and The Aquadolls.
